According to the authors, these non-technical skills may be critical for savings patients' lives. Poor teamwork, mental errors and other non-technical factors often contribute to the alarming rate of adverse effects realized at U.S. medical facilities.

Doctor errors under scrutiny in Arizona

Those who follow patient safety trends believe that 5 to 15 percent of diagnoses are made in error. However, knowing that doctors are making errors is just one part of solving the problem. The other part of the problem is knowing why such mistakes are being made, which is something that may be hard to quantify.

PTSD after giving birth

While most Arizona couples have probably heard of post-traumatic stress disorder, they may mostly think about the syndrome in terms of vets returning from war. PTSD, however, can occur to anyone who goes through a traumatic experience. Some women develop it after going through a difficult experience during childbirth and labor.

Surgeon fatigue and medical errors in Arizona

According to a recent study headed by a doctor at the University of Toronto, surgeon fatigue may not lead to increased errors during elective surgeries. If a patient had an elective surgery on a day where the surgeon had previously performed a procedure between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m., there was a 22.2 percent chance of an error. There was a 22.4 percent of an error if the surgeon had sufficient sleep the night before.
